“Ever since I was young, I always loved creating things. At school, I would sell cookies, hand-made shirts, and keychains. Never did I think I could actually start a “real” business until I came to UT. They had so many resources available for aspiring entrepreneurs, like myself and Evie. When I heard the Kendra Scott WEL Institute was coming to campus, I was so excited because I knew they would provide the support I needed as a female founder. The WEL Institute has already helped me so much with becoming more confident in my business and personal skills.”

Introducing ThousandThread, a peer-to-peer clothing rental dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion. Founders Amie Nyguen and Evie Shaw set out to solve the problem of finding something to wear for events that many college students faced. With the help of friends and UT entrepreneurial resources, these two women are able to see their business come to fruition.
About Thousand Thread
Amie Nguyen and Evie Shaw, both Class of 2022 at the University of Texas at Austin, founded ThousandThread, a location-based clothing rental platform. They are a Genesis portfolio company and a Convergent Incubator alumnus in the mid-stages of mobile application development.
When Evie and Amie first came to college, they seemed to never have the right clothes to wear to all the different events. While at first it seemed like a small issue, they recognized that many other students faced the same challenge. But the issue ran deeper than just not having the right clothes– they also recognized that when people didn’t have the attire they needed, they would purchase from fast-fashion websites or borrow (and never give back) their friends clothes.
The more they looked into the issue, they were able to see how harmful textile pollution was on this Earth– the fact that it was the second largest polluter really caught their attention! This is where they saw the opportunity to enable more sustainable fashion while allowing the community to share their wardrobes with ease. They came up with the idea for a clothing rental platform where students could post their clothes to rent to others in their area for an affordable price. This way, students could save money, make money, and help the planet.
While Evie and Amie are MIS and Finance majors at McCombs, they found that their creative and artistic skills helped them immensely with designing the first versions of the company brand and mobile application platform. With the help from great friends and UT entrepreneurial resources, like the WEL Institute, Genesis, and Convergent, they are now able to see their business come to fruition.
