“Entrepreneurship is about leveraging your passion to effect change. Channeling that passion into execution requires courage, tenacity, and guidance. As a student startup co-founder, I was forced to go beyond my comfort zone on the daily. The Austin startup ecosystem was unchartered territory for me, so networking and mentorship were hugely important. I am confident that the Kendra Scott WEL Institute will be a valuable resource for aspiring entrepreneurs. The various courses and workshops along with the sense of community that the WEL Institute harbors will empower young females to become forces for change… I wish that I had the opportunity to participate in the WEL Institute. Having a space to engage with female mentors and female student-entrepreneurs would have been game-changing; I look forward to witnessing the impact that this program has on the Austin community and beyond!”

Introducing HiPR, an intelligent pressure management system that provides users and caregivers with valuable data points to enhance pressure ulcers prevention. Founders Krishan and Koushalya were motivated to tackle the problem of pressure ulcers after witnessing their cousin suffer from it.

About HiPR innovation

2 out of every 3 spinal cord injury patients will develop pressure ulcers. In the United States, treating pressure ulcers can amount to $150,000 in medical costs per patient. Prolonged contact and pressure caused by sitting in a wheelchair leave patients at high-risk to develop pressure ulcers.

HiPR Innovation, Inc. was founded 5 years ago when co-founders and siblings Krishan (University of Texas ’19) and Koushalya Sachdev (University of Texas ’20) witnessed their cousin suffer from recurring wheelchair-induced pressure ulcers. The pervasive acceptance surrounding pressure ulcers in the healthcare community propelled Krishan and Koushalya to devise a solution: an intelligent pressure management system that provides users and caregivers with valuable data points to enhance pressure ulcer prevention. HiPR Innovation, Inc. is now a dedicated four-member team composed solely of UT alumni.

HiPR has earned funding from UT Genesis, Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs, and the Southwest Pediatric Device Consortium. Co-founders Krishan and Koushalya Sachdev recently represented HiPR Innovation, Inc. within the MassChallenge Texas 2020 Cohort and during the LaunchPad Summer Startup Fellowship. Finally, HiPR joined the Austin Technology Incubator’s portfolio and is a member of the Texas Health Catalyst and Southwest Pediatric Device Consortium.

HiPR is eternally grateful to its advisors and the University of Texas at Austin’s vast startup ecosystem for the support and encouragement.
