I realized that I didn’t need to wait for others to solve problems for me. I quickly learned that if I combined my interests and passions with the gaps I was seeing in society, I could forge my own path and hopefully, create a better reality for aspiring theatre artists, too. This is an idea I’ve had since I was in theatre in high school. My friends and I were constantly struggling to find monologues for our classwork and auditions, and I just knew there had to be a better way to go about the process.
About the Company
DramaQuest is a user-generated online community which will significantly reduce the time and energy theatre artists are currently putting into their searches for audition material, allowing them to put more time into honing their craft and doing what they love- performing. Consider if GoodReads and RateMyProfessor had a baby. This what DramaQuest would look like, but for scripts. Users would create a profile, pay a small subscription fee, and add reviews/ratings for scripts/plays they have read based on the quality and quantity of the material it contains- what identities are represented? Are there sensitive topics? Are there substantial monologues which could be good for an audition? These are the kinds of questions that actors currently struggle to get answered before investing their money and time into scripts. As our platform grows, DramaQuest will become a one-stop shop for actors/theatre artists to research plays based on the usability of the material they contain- before wasting their time and money on a useless script.
Additionally, I have some ideas for growth that aren’t quite flushed out yet but are potential directions that DramaQuest can head in. This might look like users reselling their old scripts on the platform, new playwrights promoting their work within the community, or large arts organizations placing advertisements on the website for their services/events/job openings! Ultimately, DramaQuest will drastically enhance the experience of professional actors and all theatre artists alike by solving the age-old problem of finding audition material- and the stress that accompanies it.
