FoundHER – Locket
“Coming out of high school, entrepreneurship was at the top of the list of things I wanted to explore. I had heard great things about the entrepreneurship scene in Austin and UT, but I could have never imagined the endless number of resources, mentorship, and support I would be greeted with.
Since starting Locket, I have found myself surrounded by communities of self-starters and innovators, including the KS WEL Institute. The sheer amount of empowerment I feel among other women wanting to make change is an indescribable feeling that continues to inspire and drive me every day.”

Introducing Locket, an online platform that aims to increase Texas teens’ and young adults’ access to prescribed birth control by providing educational resources and support services to those seeking birth control with or without parental consent.
Locket is an online platform that aims to increase Texas teens’ and young adults’ access to prescribed birth control by providing educational resources and support services to those seeking birth control with or without parental consent.
50% of teens feeling uncomfortable about talking to their parents about sex, who are often their main bridge to prescribed contraception. This struggle paired with facing other circumstantial barriers, educational gaps, and lack of social support that surround teen efforts to access birth control independently discourage young menstruators from contraceptive sexual practices, increasing their risks of teen pregnancy.
Locket seeks to provide an alternative to this system. They connect their beneficiaries with Title X Clinics, federally-funded clinics that provide family planning services to low income communities, including birth control prescriptions to minors free of parental permission and those over 18 with parental insurance concerns. They have specialized curriculum, educational infographics, and presentations, including topics ranging from how to pay confidentially to appointment call scripts, for every step of the way. Most important of all, Locket delivers all content in a teen-friendly manner, making the information as digestible and unintimidating as possible. Furthermore, they offer video consultations and run a direct text line for emotional support and answers to any late night questions with Locket helpers similar in age to their beneficiaries.
With a higher rate of contraceptive sex comes a higher quality of life and stronger sense of independence. Locket hopes to empower their beneficiaries to be educated and confident about taking control of their bodies, providing users with an experience that can reshape the conversation about sex when they have children and ultimately creating a domino effect for future generations.
