FoundHER – remane.co

“It was so amazing to see the energy of all of the young women at the Kendra Scott Well Institute event during Startup Week. As a woman who has entered into the entrepreneurship space, I believe that it is important to make spaces that are inclusive to female founders. I know so many women who are hustling with their side gigs and small businesses who do not call themselves entrepreneurs and I want other female business owners to feel the ownership over calling themselves entrepreneurs and entering into these spaces.”

Ariel Lee and D’azhane Cook

Meet the two Black Female Founders disrupting the natural hair care industry. Ariel and D’azhane’s venture, remane.co, tackles the stigma and confusion that still exists around natural hair today by reframing the conversation around this important topic because hair is not just hair but an opportunity to talk about issues that affect us all.

“I wish I had the opportunity to participate and interact with fellow business-minded, female Longhorns on campus through a program like the WEL Institiute. This space will be immensely beneficial to women on campus to share their ideas, learn techniques that will elevate their businesses, and support each other along their entrepreneurial journey. Having a community that you can lean on is so valuable to have for any young entrepreneur and I truly believe that the WEL Institute will be a vital resource for students on campus.”

– D’azhane Cook ’20

Ariel Lee and D’azhane Cook, both Class of 2020 graduating seniors at the University of Texas at Austin, will be 1 of 8 innovative companies participating in Target Incubator’s 2020 cohort of Gen Z change makers.

When Ariel and D’azhane began their natural hair journeys it was like opening floodgates, they were bombarded with hundreds of products and videos; it felt impossible to understand what information was for them.

D’azhane, an MIS major in McCombs, and Ariel, a Studio Art major in the College of Fine Arts, met outside of their respective majors while searching for a course that could help cultivate their entrepreneurial goals.

After meeting in the Product Prodigy Institute, a program started by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at UT, the two founders aligned and created remane.co, an early-stage venture that uses machine learning to create personalized hair care regimens for men and women with kinky and curly hair types.
