Waode Surya Darmadali has been a coordinator of the Rural Women Empowerment (RWE) Project in Bahonglangi through 1000 Guru Sulawesi Selatan in Bontocani District, Bone, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, from 2017 to 2020. She held several non–formal programs through RWE, such as adult literacy training for 28 from 14 to 55 years old who do not know how to read, write, or do math because there were 98% of women in this village. The illiterate issue in Bahonglangi Village has destructive impacts on education, information, health, agriculture, transportation, and the, most important, their economy. After ten months of training and with the support of 65 volunteers, 86% of the participants can read, write, and do the math. They also teach their family members and neighbors and become focal points for the administration, helping other women to obtain health services in the hospital. Waode, 2021 YSEALI PFP Economic Empowerment Fellow, is empowering young women in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, in partnership with her supervisor Lesley Robinson, Founding Director Kendra Scott Women’s EntrepreneurialLeadership Institute (KS WELI) at The University of Texas at Austin. She is the co-founder of Ruang Kolaborasi Perempuan (RKP), or space where women can get support through collaboration that focuses on developing three skills, entrepreneurship, leadership, and technology. She collaborated with volunteers (Professional Chefs to help the women make the best product based on SOP (Food safety and hygiene), business owners to share knowledge and experience in running a business, and financial planners to learn about financial literacy. During the WLB program, she worked with ten women who own micro-enterprises that got hit by Covid 19. After conducting several supports and supervising, they can help themselves and empower other women. Furthermore, WLB always gives underprivileged women opportunities to access entrepreneurship training through several free workshops and webinars that collaborate with various organizations.

Introducing Ruang Kolaborasi Perempuan, a social enterprise company empowering more underprivileged women to build their businesses and connect them with the market.


Ruang Kolaborasi Perempuan ( RKP) is a women collaboration space organization to provide mentoring and training to women that focus in three pillars, in leadership, technology, and entrepreneurship.
The COVID-19 pandemic has huge impact on the social and economic environment for Indonesian. Many labours are forced to quit from their jobs because their company income decrease. Besides, the community’s purchasing power decreased as the impact of the limiting activities outside. Furthermore, the goods price rise in the same time the demand goes down. Therefore, there are many small business owners close their business. The result, their businesses stop operates.
Under RKP, we develop social enterprise called Kedai Sisters where we encourage the underprivileged women ( we called mitra sisters literally sisters partner) who hit financially by pandemic to start and develop their business through collaboration. Literally Kedai Sisters means Sisters Shop. In Kedai Sisters, we create program are needed by Mitra Sisters in support them to grow their small business thorough collaboration with volunteers (Professional Chef to help the women in making the best product based on SOP (Food safety and hygiene), business owners to share knowledge and experience in running a business and financial planners.
